Why Company Culture Should be a Focus

By   |

Company culture has been a key topic of discussion for several years, but it was not until recently that businesses of all sizes decided to address workplace culture and make actionable changes. Establishing a positive company culture is more than just an office redesign or a well-planned holiday party, however. To create a culture that fosters business growth and employee productivity and positivity, logistics companies need to start thinking about their message, their team and the atmosphere that they create within the workplace, to maintain a stable customer base and hire the best talent.

Your Message

The trucking industry has a long and unique history, causing logistics companies to have their own interesting stories of how they were founded. For years, logistics companies have shared their stories and belief systems through a well-crafted ‘About Us’ page or mission statement, but are now choosing to put their values and beliefs into action. Through speaking and connecting with employees, and sharing content online in the forms of blogs, social media posts, and news articles, businesses are creating and showcasing their unique personalities to create a culture that current and potential team members can grow and succeed within.

Company culture affects what customers and employees say about your brand. We all know that brand advocacy is one of the leading ways to generate business and create a positive position, no matter your industry. Your company’s message is, therefore, what defines you in the marketplace, as it not only sets a standard that all employees will strive towards, but it is how brand advocates will describe your services! If you are unsure of your message, sit down with your employees and craft a mission statement that everyone in your company can stand behind. Your employees and your customers will thank you for it.

Know Your Team

Your team plays an essential role in developing a productive and positive company culture as they are the ones who will help your culture succeed. At TRAFFIX we know that each person has their own personality, but also their own talents and skills that contribute to the overall success of the company. We, therefore, work to ensure that their talents are identified, used and grown to not only help them learn more about themselves but to teach others and find fulfillment in their role.

Businesses who experience a high employee turn-over rate are not only losing great talent but are losing money as well, as they have not learned who their employees are or how they fit into the culture of the company. Due to the driver shortage that the logistics industry is facing, many businesses have changed their hiring practices to attract the interest of potential employees. Through sharing content on social media, engaging with online communities, and identifying candidates concerns, companies are changing how people are viewing a career in the logistics industry, and are generating positive interest.

Our Welcoming Atmosphere

At TRAFFIX, we value workplace culture and find unique ways to build our company culture every single day. Not only do we post regularly on our social accounts to congratulate employees, speak about industry news and share company updates, but we work behind the scenes to make sure that employees love where they work.

Communication is key, especially in logistics, as it plays a vital role in ensuring that products are delivered professionally and efficiently. We, therefore, place great importance on communication and encourage all team members to speak freely and respectfully with one another. We have established this through implementing an open door policy and by listening to others as they share their concerns, ideas, and successes!

We also value relationship and support activities that allow the opportunity for members to grow closer together as a team. Recently, we held a team event where one group went painting, while another group went paintballing! Not only were team members able to get to know one another on a deeper level, but they had the option of engaging in an activity that they found enjoyable. We are currently hosting “The Greatest Loser Challenge,” to increase employee health and wellness.

Mark Twain famously coined the phrase, “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Although some days tend to feel like work, we aim to create a home-like atmosphere to ensure that every team member is comfortable and enjoys what they do. Through playing music, integrating personal decorations into our office decor and providing outdoor spaces where team members can grow tomatoes or sit and have a picnic, we make sure that employees have several opportunities to interact with each other and have fun, throughout the day. TRAFFIX is the company that it is today because of the people who have worked behind the scenes to make it so.

Company culture is changing how businesses operate and is placing greater importance on employee growth and positivity. As the logistics industry continues to strengthen the economy, a strong company culture is essential in ensuring that it remains to be a cornerstone in North American growth for years to come!
